Before Moving Day....
Make sure to transfer your memberships in churches, clubs, civic organizations, etc.
Arrange for copies of school records, transcripts, etc., to be transferred.
Arrange for medical records to be transferred to your new physician.
Contact your utility and service companies to arrange the date when your service can be disconnected.
Make all your travel plans such as flights, hotels or calls to family members.
Decide what needs to travel with you, including clothing, games for the kids, books, toiletries, etc.
Begin dismantling any outdoor furniture or children's play areas, including slides and swings.
Start finding new homes for your plants, if you know they can't go with you.
Cancel subscriptions to local newspapers, magazines, or any other home delivery service you have.
If you're driving to your new home, get a detailed map and plot out your route.
As you get closer to moving day, remember to....
Safely dispose of all hazardous household chemicals like paint, oil and solvents.
Start eating items in your freezer and pantry.
Avoid buying lots of expensive food items that you may not eat in the near future.
Pack up your garage, shed, attic, crawl space and basement.
Continue packing, carefully labeling each box.
Transfer bank accounts and close safety deposit boxes.
Pack a a suitcase with clothes and toiletries you'll need for your trip.
Pay any remaining bills and close off the accounts.
Empty your lawnmower, power tools, and anything else motorized, of fuel.
Dissemble remaining furniture.
