How do I choose annual plants??
First, check out the area where you want to plant your
annuals. Does the ground have good drainage? Does
it get enough sunlight? Is the ground sandy, rocky
or full of clay? Try to pick out an area that is
conducive to growing the types of plants that
you want to purchase.
Second, think about your climate. If you live in an arid
area, don't buy plants that need a lot of water. If you
live in an area that gets a lot of rain, don't buy
plants that like it dry.
Third, think about which color plants you want before
you go shopping. It's helpful to have a color scheme
in mind before you go to the nursery.
Fourth, think about where you want to plant your
flowers before you buy them. Does the area call for
tall flowers? Ground cover? Non-flowering plants?
Make a plan before you buy.
Fifth, decide if you want to grow your plants from seed or
buy them in a nursery. Growing plants from seed is very
economical, but they need careful tending. Established
plants cost more, but they are, well, established.
Sixth, look for plants that are labeled as easy to grow, if you
are a beginner.
