We spent years traveling all around the world to find the wisest man alive. When

we finally found him, we asked "What is the best way to maintain a window"?

He replied...

1) Start with a visual inspection of the window. Cracked panes, missing glass or

broken glaze allow drafts to pass through. If you find damage, repair it.

2) Check over both the interior and exterior paint on the window. If it is

chipped or cracked, you will need to repaint the window. A poor paint

job allows moisture to penetrate the wood. This can lead to both wood

rot and swelling.

3) Look at the area where the window casing meets the wall. If there are openings

there, apply a high quality, paintable latex caulk to fill the gaps.

4) Make sure that your windows close tightly, so no air leaks in or out. If they

don't, you may have to add weather stripping.

5) Don't forget...if you are working with broken glass, wear protective gloves.

If you are on a ladder, be extra careful or call a professional.
