It's almost time for me to move and the movers are coming.
How should I pack and organize my stuff?
1) Each packed box should weigh less than 50 pounds.
2) Label all of your boxes.
3) Pack heavier items on the bottom of each box.
4) Pack socks and other soft items in the crevices in each box. This will
help keep socks together and will help cushion your more delicate items.
5) Make sure that all of your boxes can be closed with the tops staying flat.
If you don't do this, your boxes will have a greater chance of being torn
open and items being damaged.
6) Pack smaller things in small boxes and place these small boxes into
larger boxes.
7) Very small items, like jewelry and coins, should be bagged. When the
bag(s) are securely fastened, place them into larger boxes.
8) When moving liquids, either place the containers into waterproof bags
or make sure that the container's caps are securely taped down.
9) Keep a careful inventory of everything you are moving. This is useful in
case you have to file a claim.
10) Keep important records/papers with you.
11) If you are moving furniture that you have taken apart, bag all of the
screws, etc., together, and put the bag inside the furniture. If
possible, label the screws and other parts for easier re-assembly.
12) Keep items from the same room together. This will make it a lot
easier for you and the movers as you unload your possessions
at your new home.
